Anything with Coenzyme Q10 repairs older skin and Nivea has made the perfect product.
First I want to say that I think true beauty is not skin deep. I also want to say that I have pretty much always been a ponytail, sunscreen and go kinda girl. Having said that, I have noticed that the changes caused in my skin by menopause are freaking me out just a bit.
Almost every morning I look in the mirror and find the woman staring back at me has changed. It’s almost as if time has sped up while I’ve slept and the different signs of aging have had a party on my face. A few days ago, I washed my face and looked in the mirror and had a true OMG moment. Now, I realize I am “lucky” to not have many crows feet. On this morning however, it looked like a whole murder of crows roosted under my eyes for the night. I was astonished and thought, “Well, it’s finally happened. I am a member of the old crows club”. Never one to accept change easily however, I did some research and found something you all might love as much as I do.
Perimenopause and menopause skin changes effects collagen production in your skin. Gone is that “dewey” look and because collagen effects elasticity, sagging and dry skin is what we are left to work with and ta da wrinkles are born. I have always moisturized my skin. The Ladies in my family were into to it and I picked up the habit as well. But all the moisturizing in the world could not stop what I found this morning. Before going out and buying an expensive product that wouldn’t work I decided to some research and see what was new in skin products.
I discovered that CoQ10 or vitamin Q is the newest rage … well actually several years rage but I’m always a bit behind trends. It seems our Asian counterparts are all over it and it’s hard to not find a beauty product that doesn’t contain coenzyme Q10 in Japan. The studies seem to support the fact that coenzyme Q10 does work to rejuvenate older skin. Here is one study if you want to see for yourself: U.S. National Institutes of Health’s National Library of Medicine.
Coenzyme Q10 or Ubiquinone boosts cell production in our skin and is a powerful antioxidant. It helps to detoxify and repair sun damage also. It also helps with new collagen production which brings back the elasticity that older skin needs to stay tight and smoother looking. I have chosen a product I purchased at my local pharmacy made by Nivea.
To be honest I am IN LOVE with it. I love the pump activation which keeps the product itself enclosed and fresh. One pump gives you about a dime size squirt of pearls which is just enough for my neck and face. The pearls burst when you rub them on your skin and a little goes a long way. The smell is ok but it does not disturb my very allergic nose AND the feel of it on my skin is delicious. It truly almost disappears, leaving my skin feeling smooth and light I can get away with just using this product OR I can use another moisturizing cream to layer over it. The juiciest news however, is that this product almost diminished my crows feet so much that they are almost not noticeable. The fine lines under my eyes are almost completely gone. All this in under a couple of weeks. This is one of the first times I have ever felt a product did what it said it would. I promise next time I will get before and after shots. I have already gone out and bought the Nivea Day Cream to use as well which I will review later.
All in all the price of $16 Cdn is well worth it and I am giving this product a 5/5 Hot Flash score. I will be doing more CoQ10 product reviews in the future. If you try it or already use another Q10 product … please let us perimenopause / menopause Sisters in on your secret in the comment section below.
Take care of yourself, and your skin.
